Note:

Joseph M. Nougues was born in New Orleans in 1810. His son by the same name was born in Baltimore, Md. in 1842. The Nougues family migrated to California in 1854. The father was a lawyer, building contractor and owned a quartz mine in El Dorado County. His son also became a lawyer in 1864 and was the city attorney of San Francisco.
